Our valley is waking from a long winter’s nap.
It began as a whisper in the melting snow three weeks ago. Now it’s a Shout in greening grass, budding trees, blooming daffodils, birds’ song, and tiny leaf peeper frogs that serenade us from the water gardens and streams...Spring Has Arrived !! This week has seen the deck furnishings coming out of storage to get a good wash before returning to the cottage decks and porches. The cottage windows are opened to fresh breezes blowing the curtains. Rugs are drying on the railings. Today a treasure was discovered hiding in the flower garden. A nest of bunnies....the mother ran across the yard.....and no further attempt was made by the gardener to clean that bed of flowers. There’s too much life happening there....cleaning winter’s debris away can wait for another day, after the bunnies have hopped away. Spring can’t be held back...the Easter bunnies nested in the garden told us so.

It’s happening....the snow is disappearing....and more robins are in the yard.
The air “feels” like spring. It’s time to pack away the snowmen and winter décor and bring spring into the cottages...yes, spring cleaning has begun. It’s time to move furniture, buy something new, freshen the cottages for our spring and summer guests. Spring feels good to me ! I know, I know, it’s still 32 days until it’s officially Spring, but I’m feeling optimistic today....and so,
let’s take a break from Winter and Think Spring !!! I think Mark Twain said it best.... “It’s spring fever. That is what the name of it is. And when you’ve got it, you want — oh, you don’t quite know what it is you do want, but it just fairly makes your heart ache, you want it so! ~Mark Twain Enough talk of snow...let’s talk Spring .... Because yesterday I saw a robin perched in the birch tree at Excelsior Cottage.
And if there’s a little more snow along the way, that’s o.k. warm weather, bicycles, hammocks, and fishing poles will soon return to our valley. So, I’ll take a walk down the snowy lane, enjoying it’s beauty... while looking forward to the blooming of spring that’s just around the corner. Jan. 22nd, 2016 The first snow fall of the winter of 2015-2016 began at 3:31 p.m. A major storm is predicted for our region, rental cancellations are made, giving the owners time to hunker down and enjoy the beauty of Green Valley themselves, which is a rare treat indeed ! First order of business...a wintery walk to the barn, around the wagon shed and down to the bridge over Bear Creek, making tracks in the snow as I savor the quiet and solitude of the Excelsior Cottage property. Snow mounts up as evening approaches. This calls for a ride into the valley to see the deer in the meadow, and the lights in the windows of Sophronia, Francena and Lory Cottages. Awe, perfection indeed ! Keeping an eye on the snow accumulations as night draw near. The plower of snow has been called and he will arrive around 2:00 a.m. to do his first pass in keeping Green Valley’s lane open. This morning the valley is covered in nearly 20” inches of snowy beauty. The maple tree outside the kitchen window is filled with birds at the feeders. Time to put on the boots, coats, gloves and scarves and head out with the shovel.
There’s a snowy day to enjoy! Spring’s coming you, know? Dec. 31-Jan. 4, 2015
Back again to our favorite “home away from home” for 4 nights of glorious and total decompression !! This is our 11th visit to G.V., and our 9th stay at Francena Cottage. We’ve been here mostly in the spring and fall, and once in Jan, but never over the New Year Holiday. The quiet solitude was perfect for reflecting on the previous year and looking ahead into 2015. A lot to plan for. Four days here away feels just right, with our bodies and minds rested we feel more ready to face whatever the year ahead holds. Thank you for providing this wonderful place. All of your efforts are noticed and appreciated. Its fun to see what changes between visits. Until next visit. Stephanie and Jack. In echoing my kids enthusiasm, we simply had an amazing time here. Just secluded enough, yet close to the lake. This is our second time here, we couldn't help but come back. What a retreat for our family ! We absolutely will make our way back here sooner than later. The scenery around Green Valley Cottages is unbelievable - be sure to drive scenic 40 for another beautiful treat !!
I wish we could have stayed longer, this was our first time here and we will be back soon. We biked, hiked, swam, paddleboated, cooked out, had a campfire w/smores & soaked in that amazing hot tub. So much fun to have in so little time. This is the R&R that all four of us needed. Thank you for the cottage and amenities.
Erian, Kenu, Ralph, & Diamonto This was our first stay at Francena Cottage. The cottage felt like something out of a movie and we found ourselves relaxing immediately. The property is gorgeous - we enjoyed the hammock, hot tub, bikes and paddleboat. On our last night, we went star gazing by the lake, and it was amazing ! Thank you for the most romantic experience thes tired parents have had in a long, long time !! We will certainly be back again.

Guestbook entry from Lory Cottage: I don't want to leave and I'm jealous ! All of those people who have been coming here for years ! How I wish we had found it sooner ! But that just means this is the first of many more visits for us. Lory Cottage is what I envision when I hear the word "cottage". the décor and amenities are perfect. The setting is tranquil. Without a doubt, we will visit again. Thank You ! Sean and Marci and Winter Lititz, Pa. |
