Today, between guests, while I wait on the laundry to dry, I decide to do some office work from Lory Cottage. I head to the front porch, open my computer, and here I am! It's a good place to write, and after nonstop rain for the past five days, it feels good to be outside in the sunshine again listening to the birds' songs and the whirl of the lawn mower. During Deb's time at Lory Cottage earlier this month, she wrote that "In a world and culture so immersed in violence, greed, arrogance and bullying..in a world and culture bombarded with noise pollution, light pollution... There is this World of Green Valley Cottages. A haven, a respite, a profound blessing. A little bit of heaven for the weary traveler. And one definition of heaven on earth is--A hallowed haven in an uncertain world. That is exactly how I would describe your beautiful setting - a place where you can marvel at all that God has created and feel safe". I may be biased, but I think Deb's got it just about right!

"Many things this time of year Give my heart a thrill It’s the time of year I love the most, but... Nothing says spring like Daffodils!" Marilyn Lott The gentle gardener who created, planted and cared for the gardens at Excelsior Cottage is no longer with us. But with the coming of Spring we are thankful for him, as we enjoy the blessing of the flowers that appear as if by magic. This week as we walk the trails and grounds we find thousands of daffodils popping up in the most unexpected places. Isn't Spring wonderful? "At some point...you gotta let go and sit still and allow contentment to come to you."
Elizabeth Gilbert It's here...that first day of Spring we've been waiting for! As Charles Dickens said, "It was one of those March days when the sun shines hot and the wind blows cold. When it is summer in the light and winter in the shade." Well, that was true yesterday...the last day of winter...when I cut daffodils and arranged them in bottles for the kitchen window. Today...the first day of Spring, I woke to a beautiful snowy day...8 inches so far and counting. Humm...it is Spring, isn't it? it's Spring--and we love it.
If you would please, just for a minute, let's forget Winter. This week I feel like cleaning and removing the last of my Winter décor. Yes, it's officially still Winter, but I know that Winter will soon be over with its cold and chilly winds, and beautiful Spring is on its way. And so, for just today, I will dream of flowers, flowing waters and songs of the birds. Come dream along with me--it will soon be Spring you know! Anytime I feel lost or in search of answers, I can always find it best in the silence. There is an unbelievable peace here that radiates through the chaos and confusion of daily life. A place to find things, grow things and discover all the small details that sadly become misplaced in the dishevelment of life. A place of peace and comfort. A place where times stay still and everything makes perfect sense. That's what our Dec. 16th guests discovered during their time at Green Valley. What's what Green Valley's all about!www.mygreenvalley.net/ Today a friend told me of their holiday tradition of sharing what they're each looking forward to in the New Year.
I'm looking forward to spending more time with my sweetheart at Green Valley. How about you? We're wishing you a healthy and memorable New Year, and looking forward to what awaits us at Green Valley in 2018. We hope to see you there. Look up on a starry night, and you will see the majesty and power of an infinite Creator. -Billy Graham- Wishing you and yours a joyous Christmas Season. "In general, I find that things that have happened to me out of doors have made a deeper impression than things that have happened indoors." Bertrand Russell Come, allow Green Valley's beauty to make an impression on you. |
