The Robin Told Us So....
Enough talk of snow...let’s talk Spring .... Because yesterday I saw a robin perched in the birch tree at Excelsior Cottage.
And if there’s a little more snow along the way, that’s o.k.
warm weather, bicycles, hammocks, and fishing poles will soon return to our valley.
So, I’ll take a walk down the snowy lane, enjoying it’s beauty...
while looking forward to the blooming of spring that’s just around the corner.
The First Snow
Jan. 22nd, 2016
The first snow fall of the winter of 2015-2016 began at 3:31 p.m.
A major storm is predicted for our region, rental cancellations are made,
giving the owners time to hunker down and enjoy the beauty of Green Valley themselves,
which is a rare treat indeed !
First order of business...a wintery walk to the barn, around the wagon shed
and down to the bridge over Bear Creek,
making tracks in the snow as I savor the quiet and solitude of the Excelsior Cottage property.
Snow mounts up as evening approaches.
This calls for a ride into the valley to see the deer in the meadow, and the lights in
the windows of Sophronia, Francena and Lory Cottages.
Awe, perfection indeed !
Keeping an eye on the snow accumulations as night draw near.
The plower of snow has been called and he will arrive around 2:00 a.m.
to do his first pass in keeping Green Valley’s lane open.
This morning the valley is covered in nearly 20” inches of snowy beauty.
The maple tree outside the kitchen window is filled with birds at the feeders.
Time to put on the boots, coats, gloves and scarves and head out with the shovel.
There’s a snowy day to enjoy! Spring’s coming you, know?
We snapped this shot last week while cleaning Exclesior. This is your view from the front deck! You know you're totally "away from it all" when the deer get this close!
Caution: Deer Crossing Here
"This evening, after a day of trimming brush in our valley, I sat on Excelsior Cottage's deck for a rest.
Ten deer crossed the fording on Bear Creek and I was lucky enough to get a picture of a few of them.
The perfect reward for a hard day's work"

Fall at Excelsior
Today, after doing some fall cleaning in the flower gardens at Excelsior Cottage, we took a nice, long hike into the hills. The foliage is at its peak---beautiful.
Taken from Sophie's yard. The bridge over Bear Creek is in the background
The colors of Fall are beginning to creep into the valley and the old meadow by Excelsior Cottage is filled with waist high Goldenrod Flowers. Bill's Trail takes you all around the old meadow and through the waving Goldenrod. I think the beautiful and bright Fall colors help ease the pain of a Summer gone by...........
