GREEN VALLEY COTTAGES
"What magic you have created here. This cottage feels like a warm hug. Our first full day it rained-torrentially. At first we were disappointed that we couldn't explore the beautiful property, but then we discovered the pleasure of sitting in the protected porch chairs while the rain fell on the tin roof. It was one of the most relaxing mornings and afternoons we've ever spent! When the skies did finally clean mid-morning the following day, the sunshine felt that much sweeter. The birds sang and the butterflies danced. The memories are deeply rooted in our hearts and we hope to be back to make more." Francena Cottage's guests Green Valley's a wonderful escape during life's storms. A place to rest, reflect and be restored. Now sit back, turn up your volume, and listen to the song of the wood thrush in the video below. Perhaps he was one of those birds that Francena's guests heard on their sunshiney day. "The Wood Thrush's loud, flute-clear ee-oh-lay song rings through the deciduous forests of the eastern U.S. in summer. This reclusive bird's cinnamon brown upper-parts are good camouflage as it scrabbles for leaf-litter invertebrates deep in the forest, though it pops upright frequently to peer about, revealing a boldly spotted white breast." Today is a blue sky, green grass, breezes blowing sort of day. The rains of the past three days has washed our world looks fresh and clean. Today I just have to get outside and look up at the dancing leaves, green against the blue sky. Life is everywhere. There's always something new bursting forth in the valley, if only I will take time to stop all the noise inside my head, look, and listen. I need to hit that Pause button before the beauty of this day passes me by. I take another deep breath. It's a day of contemplation, unwinding, renewing.
Listen, the birds are singing their song. And it's a happy one! a poem by Edgar A. Guest “I want to go fishing ! somewhere on a stream I want to give way to the longing to dream. Away from the tumult of motor and mill. I want to be carefree. I want to be still! I’m weary of doing things; weary of words, I want to one with the blossoms and birds. I want to push off from the river-kissed shore Alone with my dreams and my fancies once more. I am wearying of reading the books on my shelf I want to be quiet and think for myself. I’ve a feeling sometimes of huge things crushing me And I want to go somewhere and set my soul free. I want to go fishing! to sit all alone Where only the purest of breezes are blown; To visit in worlds that are different from ours, The world of the insects, the song birds, the flowers; To question the skies and the waters below And be the glad youth that I was long ago.” Welcoming Spring at Green Valley means getting the lake ready for your fishing pole. We just stocked it for the season last week! Is there anything more relaxing than laying back in an Adirondack chair waiting for a bite?
Doe and Fawns feed outside of Sophronia Cottage - August 2011 Some place cool and green and shady ? Green Valley in August ! The "Dog Days of Summer" have settled into the valley bringing warm sunny days and cool starry nights. The deer are either going into the creek or coming out it seems. Yesterday I watched a Doe & fawn stroll up stream and around the bend, nibbling on leaves as they went. Nice way to eat lunch on a hot Summer day ! Fishing has been good this summer and a guest in Lory Cottage has taken a 22 in. Bass to have mounted. Congratulations ! The nights are filled with one of my favorite sounds, Katydids ! When I was a boy, I spent many Summer nights in a sleeping bag by a campfire near the lake at Green Valley. The Katydids would sing me to sleep and the call of the Crows would wake me in the morning. Wow, that's been 40 couple years ago ! Nice to know the campfires are still burning and the Katydids are still singing folks to sleep.....Have a happy dream............. |
